There's so much to do in Highland Perthshire...

Ben Lawers                                        Kayaking on Loch Tay                  Glen Lyon in Winter

However active you like to be, Highland Perthshire will have something for you. Extensive hill walking offers scenery of unparallelled beauty. We are blessed with a number of Munros (hills over 3000 feet). Schiehallion (Fairy Hill of the Caledonians) with its characteristic pyramid shape comes into view as you approach Fortingall from Aberfeldy. Glen Lyon offers wonderful walking and Ben Lawers is the tenth highest Munro at 3983 feet (1214m) and can be climbed along with Meill Ghlas, or if you're really fit - as a series of up to seven in one go!

Cycling is very popular, and it is easy to hire bicycles locally. There are routes of varying lengths, catering for the gentle potter around the countryside up to the potential Tour de France contenders! For horse lovers, try Taymouth Stables which offers pony trekking for both beginners and experienced riders.

This beautiful area is home to a wide variety of wildlife and birdlife including the majestic red deer, roe deer and Golden eagle as well as being one of the last bastions of the elusive red squirrel. For a personal guided visit, you can try a 4x4 trip with Highland Adventure Safaris.

Castle Menzies                               Fishing on the Lyon                  Fortingall Kirk and Yew

This area is full of history - ancient and more modern. Near to the cottage in the churchyard is our local ancient Yew Tree, reputed to be up to 5,000 years old. We also have several standing and cup marked stones. On the shores of Loch Tay is a reconstructed Iron Age Crannog (house) on stilts which is well worth a visit. More recent history gives us our local castles - Castle Menzies is the home of Clan Menzies (just six miles away) and Blair Castle further afield in Blair Atholl is very pretty and home to the Atholl Highlanders.

Watersports are very popular here and you can try white water rafting, canoeing or kayaking, sailing, loch cruises, canyoning and other extreme sports.
